|
|
| Hey, in my cobalt i can hear a "fan" type noise comming from the dash on the passenger side depending on the engine speed. I can start to hear it at about 1000rpm and it gets louder when the engine speed increases. Is this normal or is something wrong? |

The noise that you hear is the "fresh air fan". The blower motor
runs constantly while the ignition is on. This is to provide air
circulation in the vehicle. If you place your hand over one of
vents, you should feel a slight stream of air. The air coming
through the outside vents increases as vehicle speed increases,
which in turn causes the fan to spin faster. I hope this cleared
up your question. |

I would agree that it could be a fan being spun by airflow as a result of the cars speed increasing but it is engine speed that has me thinking that it may be something else. Does the noise get quieter and then louder again every time you go up a gear?
I do hear a more of a whistling noise from mine but it only becomes noticeable around 3000 rpm under hard acceleration, if that’s the noise your hearing then it’s the result of increased air flow into the engine at higher RPM's.
I'm far from a mechanic but that’s what it sounds like to me and I hear it on mine to.
P.S. Other than the whistling I mentioned above I don’t get any fan sounding noise at all.
Hope that helped,
Later all. |
